Frequently Asked Questions
Jays eat larger foods such as peanuts, sunflower seeds, and quality seed blends. Peanuts are the best choice if you're trying to attract jays because they are a favourite food for many species. Refer to "Choosing The Right Seed" and "Beyond Bird Seed" for guidance.
You can offer peanuts or sunflower seeds in a stronger feeder or platform where larger birds have enough room to feed. Jays are also attracted to yards with trees and other natural cover where they can perch and keep an eye on their surroundings.
If jays are eating more than you'd like, try offering food specifically for them in a separate location away from your smaller bird feeders. Using feeders designed for smaller birds can also make it harder for larger birds to dominate the feeding area.
